Information Communication Technology (ICT) in education

           Today, ICT has progressed to become an integral part of the education system. Educational organizations in countries like Australia, Finland, USA, South Korea and other developed countries are intensely utilizing the ICT curriculum and development to resolve the communication and technological differences. It is not so late for a developing country like Bhutan, to understand the changes that ICT can bring upon in our education system.
In the 21st century classroom, ICT tools contribute a high quality lessons since they have potential to increase students’ motivation, connect students to diverse information sources and let teachers to give more time for facilitation. Use of technologies also develop students’ self-confidence and self-esteem to learn. In addition, new technologies encourage independent and active learning, as a result, the students feel more responsible for their own learning.

Some benefits of ICT in education are;
ü  Teachers can teach better with images, videos and graphics while delivering lessons.
ü  Educators can create engaging, interesting and well-designed classroom activities.
ü  Promote and improve the digital culture in schools and colleges.
ü  Students can learn useful life skills through technology.
ü  Enhanced mode of communication.

As a teacher, we can use the various ICT applications to learn as well as to teach the students.
Teachers can use ICT in the classroom as;
1.     an informative tool
2.     a communicative tool
3.     a constructive tool
4.     an co-constructive tool
5.     a situating tool.

Each tool will be discussed in my upcoming posts, with my experiences of using the ict applications.
Thank you.
